The Star Citizen Competitive Combat Club (SC4) is hosting a 5v5 Star Marine tournament on June 24 at 17:00 UTC (1pm EDT, 10am PDT). The matches and a 30-minute pregame show will be streamed on our Twitch channel and hosted by TheAstroPub.

The tournament is structured as a double-elimination bracket where each match will be a 5v5 Last Stand game on Station Demien. The prize pool is starting new for Star Marine (ie, donations to our AC tournaments will only be used in AC tournaments). To contribute, donate here. The winnings will be split 70/30 between 1st and 2nd place (via paypal).

If we somehow get 8+ NA teams and 8+ EU teams, we'll actually split the bracket into regions.

Registration

All players must be in the SC4 Discord channel to participate. This is how we set up matches and communicate. After joining the Discord channel, registration will be done directly in Challonge using the tournament signup page . If the captain doesn't have an account, this will require creating both an account and team on Challonge. Set Organization to to the Star Citizen Competitive Combat Club and include an appropriate avatar for displaying on the stream.

When creating a team, include:

  • An avatar for your team (different than an avatar for your individual account)
  • List of all players on your team -- their Discord names and RSI Handles
  • Preferred region (either EU or NA, since the chances for 8+ APAC teams is pretty low)

Registration will not be complete until at least 5 RSI handles are included in the team.

Note: you can include more than 5 people on a team as backups, but only 5 can play at a time and players cannot be a member of multiple teams.

Registration will end June 22 at 1700 UTC. Contact @malogos or @chiefgully if you have any trouble signing up.

Rules and Match Procedure

Seeding

Teams will seeded based on average Last Stand ranking when registration closes. Players without LS ranks will be given the last rank+1. Teams with the same seed score will be ranked based on when they sign up.

Match setup

Again, all players must be on the SC4 Discord. From there, officials will use voice channels to get all players into a private Last Stand lobby on Station Demien. Assuming we don't have enough teams for regional bracket, unless both teams are from the EU and prefer EU servers, NA servers will be used.

ADD ALL OFFICIALS TO YOUR RSI FRIENDS LIST. Both the player inviting and the invitee must be on each others' friends lists (thanks so much, CIG) and these officials will handle invites for each match:

The team with the higher seed will choose which side they want to start on (Marines or Outlaws).

Unfortunately, matches begin immediately after launching. The official will ensure that all players connected. If someone disconnects or both teams determine the server is too unstable to play, the match will be restarted up to 2 times.

Match Gameplay

A Last Stand game will be played as normally. See the Bugs/Exploits section for specific rules on gameplay.

At the end of each round, officials will record and screenshot the scoreboard (this will be used in tie games).

Victory Conditions and Match Results

To win, a team must either win 3/4 rounds in the Last Stand match, or, should the match become a draw (2/4 rounds), have a higher combined control point score over the four rounds. These are points earned from controlling terminals, not kills or other factors. This is also why officials and teams must record the score at the end of each round. In the very unlikely event of two teams also having the same total control point score, the match will be redone with the starting sides switched between teams.

Each match will be decided by a single Last Stand game, but the championship will be a single-elimination, best of three series.

Bugs / Exploits

Star Citizen is obviously an alpha game. SC4 officials have consulted with competitive Star Marine players to determine which bugs are game-breaking and which can be played through.

Allowed / playthrough bugs:

  • No-respawn bug -- in some situations, players cannot respawn until the next round.
  • The Helmet bug or Voldo bug -- for when the helmet detaches from the player's pov
  • Sprinting while reloading with an empty magazine (P4AR)
  • Jumping down stairs to preserve momentum
  • Switching guns while sprinting
  • Killing or damaging players through the spawn door using explosives outside the spawn door
  • Starting a capture of objective C on Op Demien from the other side of the computer to save time
  • Shooting through certain opaque panels (wallbanging)

Illegal bugs/exploits

  • Intentionally glitching through walls, floors, or other impassible terrain, by abusing a charged sniper rifle, meleeing, emoting, prone rolling, throwing grenades, or EVA
  • Any method to exceed maximum movement speed of the current terrain (exceeding the maximum speed of EVA while EVA, the speed of jumping while jumping in gravity, or the speed of running on a flat surface while on the ground)
  • Any method that causes players to teleport from anyone’s perspective, lag and desync excluded
  • Shooting through impenetrable objects
  • Entering the opposing team's spawn zone
  • Using a charged sniper rifle to slide at high speed
  • Using tactical emotes to recharge an Arrowhead Energy Sniper Rifle
